Ontario Moves to Build Faster, and
Support the Housing MarketThe Government of Ontario has introduced legislation to speed up housing development and transit projects by streamlining approvals, reducing red tape, and improving coordination on construction timelines. At the same time, new buyer incentives, such as HST relief on new homes, are helping unlock stalled projects and stimulate demand.
For TTMAC members, these initiatives signal a period of increased activity across residential and infrastructure projects in Ontario. More housing starts mean greater opportunities for skilled trades, particularly in tile, stone, terrazzo, and other hard surface installations. With tighter timelines and higher project volume, the focus on quality, durability, and proper workmanship is more important than ever, highlighting the value of TTMAC’s standards, training, and industry advocacy.
As Ontario works to build faster and more efficiently, TTMAC members are positioned to help ensure these projects are executed right, setting the benchmark for excellence in every installation.

In Memoriam: Dennis “Denny” Edissi
February 1, 1942 - November 24, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dennis “Denny” Edissi, Past President of the TTMAC from 2001 - 2006.
Dennis’s connection to our industry spanned more than six decades. Beginning his career in the 1960's, he grew to become a highly respected leader whose influence shaped both Twin City Tile and the broader Canadian tile and terrazzo community. His many years as President of the TTMAC were marked by dedication, steady leadership, and a deep commitment to strengthening industry standards and supporting the people who make up our association.
Dennis was known for his energy, his generosity, and his incredible passion for the craft. Whether contributing to technical work, supporting industry initiatives, or bringing warmth and enthusiasm to our events, he made a lasting impression on everyone around him. His legacy lives on through the advancements he helped champion and the countless individuals he inspired along the way.
Our former General Manager, Violeta, shared a personal reflection on her time with Dennis:
“I first met Dennis in 1997 when he was the Vice-President of TTMAC. Dennis served as a President for many years, dedicating a lot of time to the association, contributing to the development of our specifications and training. Many times he told me how he started coming to the TTMAC convention when he was a teenager with his father and how he made sure he never missed a convention. Dennis was one of a kind: from being the President to being the one to say Grace at all our events, to being a real auctioneer at all silent or live auctions, but most importantly he was the most passionate about our industry! He will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace dear Dennis!”On behalf of the TTMAC community, we extend our deepest condolences to his beloved wife Karen, his son Brian, well known to many of our members through his work at Twin City Tile, and to the entire Edissi family. Dennis’s leadership, humour, and unwavering dedication leave an enduring mark on our association, and he will be greatly missed.

Porcelain and Ceramic TileAs a society, we’re becoming increasingly aware of the importance of health and hygiene. With this greater awareness has come the understanding that creating a healthy and hygienic environment isn’t just about our actions, but also about the materials around us. Materials in our homes, or areas where we spend significant time on a daily basis, may have an even greater potential to affect our health. While certain building materials may have environmental or health concerns, ceramic-based materials are appreciated for their absence of harmful chemicals and the ability to promote cleanliness and hygiene.

Summer Newsletter – 2025

A Letter From Our New President
I didn’t set out to work in tile.
After earning a degree in Interior Design, I took a summer job at a tile showroom. It was just a way to gain a little experience and pay the bills before starting what I thought would be my “real” career. But that temporary job quickly turned into something more, a path I hadn’t planned, but one I’ve never looked back on.

Welcome Sherri Wildman!

Canadian Certified Tile Installer (CCTI)
What is CCTI? TTMAC discussed with all its members the need to have tile setters certified, to differentiate between someone who knows how to install tile according to specifications and someone who learns how to install tiles on youtube. This certification course is very comprehensive and very well set. The curriculum was written based on the specification manual and has been scrutinized by many.
After taking the online course as well as the hands-on test, all installers who pass the test, will be listed on our website and will all be promoted to the industry as certified tile installers. Click Here to go to the CCTI Website
