Understanding the Basics of Terrazzo 

This educational program is designed for anyone interested in the technical aspects of terrazzo and is based on the Terrazzo, Tile and Marble Association of Canada Terrazzo Specification Guide 09 66 00 2017-2019.

Tile Installation

The TTMAC “Tile Installation” webcourse provides the participant with the necessary information to understand all the details that must come together for a successful ceramic, stone or glass tile installation. The course is divided into 15 Modules, including but not limited to: Substrates, Underlayment and Membranes, Bonding Materials, Tile and all the TTMAC Installation Details. The program is based on the Specification Guide 09 30 00 Tile Installation Manual 2016-2017, and details all the specification and requirements for each segment. This comprehensive course offers the experienced tile installer the technical knowledge to gain a TTMAC Installation Certificate, as well as the engineer, architect and designer, or any interested person, an insight into the highly complex and often misunderstood hard surface tile industry.

Tile Installer Thin-Set Standards (ITS) Verification

The Tile Installer Thin-set Standards (ITS) Verification course instructs installers on Canadian industry standards and teaches proper installation methods and practices for tile thin-set applications. It applies to ceramic tile, porcelain tile, stone tile, glass tile and other types of adhered tile materials. It covers current Canadian industry standards as well as common manufacturers’ requirements. This course is also meaningful to architects, general contractors, consultants, inspectors, and owners who want to be aware of the industry installation standards and methods.

Understanding the Basics of Ceramic Tile

The online Ceramic Tile course teaches all of the basics of ceramic tile, including Canadian industry standards, usage and applications, how it is manufactured, how it is installed, how to select tile, sales techniques for upselling, how to maintain tile, and how to avoid problems and false expectations. The course is designed to give salespeople the tools they need in order to increase sales, it gives tile installers and specifiers the knowledge to assist clients with selecting ceramic tile; which includes porcelain tiles. It also gives professional designers and architects the knowledge on how to select and specify tile products.

Understanding the Basics of Natural Stone

The Natural Stone course teaches all of the basics of natural stone, including Canadian industry standards, the geology of the various stones, how it is produced, how it is installed, how to select and design with tile, how to maintain tile, and it provides sales techniques for upselling. The course is designed to give salespeople the tools they need in order to increase sales, it gives stone installers and fabricators the knowledge to assist clients with selecting natural stone, and it gives professional designers the knowledge on how to select and specify natural stone.

This course provides detailed information on how architectural sales representatives can get their company’s tile and stone products specified, by learning strategic tactics and creating "Bulletproof Specifications" that are resistant to "Value Engineering and Substitutions"

Terrazzology – 6.0 CEU’s for Architects

This 6 hour presenter classroom course is designed for architects and interior designers as well as contractors desiring to gain a full understanding of terrazzo that includes the historical evolution and advancements that have occurred and led to the technology that is used today. Attendees will learn about the different terrazzo systems that are available and which system is best suited for each specific project. A step by step installation procedure will be reviewed that includes conceptual floor design to the completion of a terrazzo floor. Colour selection and terrazzo component options will be presented where participants will utilize materials and colour pallets to create a terrazzo colour of their choice that reflects the art and unique patterns that may be incorporated into terrazzo. This seminar also provides the environmental advantages of terrazzo and how it applies to sustainable initiatives for indoor air quality, recycling and resource efficiency and life cycle costs. Understanding the Basics of Terrazzo

                   

 

TTMAC has developed two distance learning, web based programs called

  • "Understand the Basics of Ceramic Tile"
  • "Understanding the Basics of Natural Stone"

Both programs are web based and a participant can access the program seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and has 21 days to complete the program.  Each program consists of several sections, each having a pre-course test and a post section test.  A participant can elect to take a section over before proceeding to the next section.  The participant can sign in and out during the 21 days, and must have an overall average of over 80% in order to pass and print off a Certificate.  The participant can then download a copy of the Student Reference Guide for future use.
