As summer comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to look back at a busy few months for TTMAC. From our convention in Halifax to golf tournaments on both the East and West Coasts, it’s been great to see members coming together, making connections and getting involved.
We’ve also welcomed several new members to TTMAC and new faces to our Board of Directors. We’re excited to have their experience, ideas and perspective at the table as we continue to shape the association.
With plenty of ideas coming out of our Board Meetings and conversations with members, there’s a lot to look forward to in the remaining months of the year. We’re excited to keep building, keep listening and keep moving TTMAC forward.

Member News: Board of Director Updates
We had a fantastic turnout for our TTMAC Convention in Halifax, Nova Scotia this June, bringing members together for a great few days of connection, conversation and industry engagement.
As part of our Board of Directors meeting and AGM in Halifax, we also saw some changes to our Board. We would like to sincerely thank John Alley of Custom Building Products and Barb Hilderman of Ames Tile & Stone for their many years of service, dedication and contributions to the success and growth of TTMAC. Both have decided to step away from the Board to pursue other opportunities, and we are grateful for all they have given to the association.
With these changes, we are pleased to welcome several new members to the Board:

ARDEX: More Than Products
ARDEX has been at the forefront of research and development of tile and stone systems. While ARDEX is well known for our products, training, technical support and our service-driven approach to business are also a big part of who we are.
ARDEX is currently actively participating in many TTMAC programs, as well as many other international associations. Shaping and guiding the industry is a major focus for ARDEX, participating in specification development, training and education, and inspections. We proudly share our knowledge with our industry.
Our technical field experience brings real-world solutions to the contractor.
The ARDEX Sales and Technical teams can provide valuable jobsite technical support. This support and our job-specific recommendations help contractors plan challenging installations before work begins. Recommendations can address substrate preparation, installation instructions and complete warranted systems. ARDEX Technical Support is here for the whole project, from start-up through to completion.
Along with on-site guidance, ARDEX provides free hands-on training at our Toronto ARDEX Academy and at many other off-site venues nationally. Training topics range from moisture mitigation and substrate preparation, gauged porcelain panel installation, cutting and handling, tile and stone installation systems, and exterior tile installations. These hands-on classes are taught to the industry's most current best practices and standards. Classes run twice a month.
ARDEX Technical Services and our capable Sales team are here and ready to assist with your questions, concerns and training needs.

THE HOT TOPIC: Ceramic Tile's Energy Story

Ceramic tile’s pursuit of sustainable energy
By the time a fully loaded Jumbo 747 taxis, takes off and reaches its cruising altitude, it would have consumed almost 19,000 litres of aviation fuel. This marks the most energy intensive phase of its flight. Similarly, the firing of ceramic tiles is its most energy intensive phase as the temperatures reach almost 1,200°C in the kiln.
To reach such high temperatures, the industry has been using fossil fuels to fire these kilns. Frequent energy shocks and the push to go greener has been forcing these industries to adopt renewable energy sources.
