Member News: Board of Director Updates

We had a fantastic turnout for our TTMAC Convention in Halifax, Nova Scotia this June, bringing members together for a great few days of connection, conversation and industry engagement.

As part of our Board of Directors meeting and AGM in Halifax, we also saw some changes to our Board. We would like to sincerely thank John Alley of Custom Building Products and Barb Hilderman of Ames Tile & Stone for their many years of service, dedication and contributions to the success and growth of TTMAC. Both have decided to step away from the Board to pursue other opportunities, and we are grateful for all they have given to the association.

With these changes, we are pleased to welcome several new members to the Board:

Pierre Hebert

Senior Business Development Manager, Sika

We’re excited to welcome Pierre back to the TTMAC Board of Directors. Having previously served on the Board, Pierre brings extensive industry experience and valuable technical expertise. He will lead TTMAC’s Technical Outreach Program through tech@ttmac.com, supporting industry professionals with questions around standards, installation and best practices, and will also lead ACTTM Franco, a new committee focused on strengthening TTMAC’s connection with the Francophone industry and expanding access to our resources across Canada.

Jason Parachnowitsch

Vice President - National Sales, Ames Tile

Jason will be joining our Technical Research & Specifications Committee, helping us keep our specifications, manuals and guides current and relevant to the industry.

ARDEX is currently actively participating in many TTMAC programs, as well as many other international associations. Along with on-site guidance, ARDEX provides free hands-on training at our Toronto ARDEX Academy and at many other off-site venues nationally. Training topics range from moisture mitigation and substrate preparation, gauged porcelain panel installation, cutting and handling, tile and stone installation systems, and exterior tile installations. These hands-on classes are taught to the industry's most current best practices and standards. Classes run twice a month.

ARDEX Technical Services and our capable Sales team are here and ready to assist with your questions, concerns and training needs.

THE HOT TOPIC: Ceramic Tile's Energy Story

Ceramic tile’s pursuit of sustainable energy

By the time a fully loaded Jumbo 747 taxis, takes off and reaches its cruising altitude, it would have consumed almost 19,000 litres of aviation fuel. This marks the most energy intensive phase of its flight. Similarly, the firing of ceramic tiles is its most energy intensive phase as the temperatures reach almost 1,200°C in the kiln.

To reach such high temperatures, the industry has been using fossil fuels to fire these kilns. Frequent energy shocks and the push to go greener has been forcing these industries to adopt renewable energy sources.

Ontario Moves to Build Faster, and
Support the Housing Market

The Government of Ontario has introduced legislation to speed up housing development and transit projects by streamlining approvals, reducing red tape, and improving coordination on construction timelines. At the same time, new buyer incentives, such as HST relief on new homes, are helping unlock stalled projects and stimulate demand.

For TTMAC members, these initiatives signal a period of increased activity across residential and infrastructure projects in Ontario. More housing starts mean greater opportunities for skilled trades, particularly in tile, stone, terrazzo, and other hard surface installations. With tighter timelines and higher project volume, the focus on quality, durability, and proper workmanship is more important than ever, highlighting the value of TTMAC’s standards, training, and industry advocacy.

As Ontario works to build faster and more efficiently, TTMAC members are positioned to help ensure these projects are executed right, setting the benchmark for excellence in every installation.

In Memoriam: Dennis “Denny” Edissi

February 1, 1942  -  November 24, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Dennis “Denny” Edissi, Past President of the TTMAC from 2001 - 2006.

Dennis’s connection to our industry spanned more than six decades. Beginning his career in the 1960's, he grew to become a highly respected leader whose influence shaped both Twin City Tile and the broader Canadian tile and terrazzo community. His many years as President of the TTMAC were marked by dedication, steady leadership, and a deep commitment to strengthening industry standards and supporting the people who make up our association.

Dennis was known for his energy, his generosity, and his incredible passion for the craft. Whether contributing to technical work, supporting industry initiatives, or bringing warmth and enthusiasm to our events, he made a lasting impression on everyone around him. His legacy lives on through the advancements he helped champion and the countless individuals he inspired along the way.

Our former General Manager, Violeta, shared a personal reflection on her time with Dennis:
“I first met Dennis in 1997 when he was the Vice-President of TTMAC. Dennis served as a President for many years, dedicating a lot of time to the association, contributing to the development of our specifications and training. Many times he told me how he started coming to the TTMAC convention when he was a teenager with his father and how he made sure he never missed a convention. Dennis was one of a kind: from being the President to being the one to say Grace at all our events, to being a real auctioneer at all silent or live auctions, but most importantly he was the most passionate about our industry! He will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace dear Dennis!”

On behalf of the TTMAC community, we extend our deepest condolences to his beloved wife Karen, his son Brian, well known to many of our members through his work at Twin City Tile, and to the entire Edissi family. Dennis’s leadership, humour, and unwavering dedication leave an enduring mark on our association, and he will be greatly missed.
