Under the direction of the master mosaicist, the mosaicist (craftsman) uses different types of materials such as stone, glass, stoneware, enamel or terracotta to create and assemble the tesserae of a mosaic. He generally works on his creations in the workshop, but may also be called upon to work on interior or exterior sites, depending on customer demand.
Role and responsibilities:
- Carry out a precise survey of the work, identifying the location and dimensions of the planned space, then draw a sketch of the project;
- Produce a schematic drawing of the directional lines and shaded areas to be used as reference points for cutting the tesserae;
- Draw up an installation plan and define the mosaic's chromatic range, defining the technique required for the work in stone, glass, glass paste, marble earthenware, enamel or terracotta;
- Cutting and trimming tesserae using tools (hammering, slicing, logging, multi-blading, water-jet, industrial polisher), an essential and delicate step, as the beauty and harmony of the work depends to a large extent on the shape given to each tesserae;
- Match the pieces in terms of color and shape, assemble them and apply them side by side to a support (floor, wall, objects, furniture, paintings, etc.)
- Assemble the mosaic on a support using a binder and to fill in the gaps.

- Maintain cleanliness of premises and inspection of various tools (saw, hammer, carpenter's machines, trimming machines, etc.);
- Perform all other related tasks.
Profile required::
- DEC in Craft Techniques, a diploma in mosaics or an equivalent diploma
- One (1) to three (3) years' experience as a mosaicist
- Manual skills, attention to detail and patience
- Technical knowledge of plan reading/drawing
- Ability to present a portfolio covering various technical skills
- Good physical condition and no allergies (dust, glues, solvents, etc.
