Description

The materials and techniques for a successful grout installation are discussed and illustrations given. The grout, along with the tile, is what the user sees. It is often disappointing when it does not perform as expected. Cracked, dirty, discoloured, or a grout colour that is considerable different than that which was chosen, is common in the hard surface tile installation. Learn how to avoid these disappointments.

John grew up participating in his family’s cabinet making, and award winning custom home building business.  His father started a floor covering firm which included ceramic tiles and John joined the firm full time after college.  Unfortunately, this business had to be closed several years later for health reasons.  John joined a well-established Ottawa flooring firm as head of their residential section.

In 1976 he was approached by Olympia Tile International Inc. to be their first Architectural Representative outside Toronto.  He subsequently transferred to Calgary to implement an Architectural Division across western Canada.  Later, he returned to Ontario to become Branch Manager for Olympia’s Ottawa branch.  In 2006 he was asked to move to Toronto to manage the Architectural Department there, as well as assuming other areas of responsibly.

John left Olympia’s employ in 2009 to start his own consulting business: conducting industry related training sessions across Canada and into the US; overseeing the design, construction and operations of several ceramic and stone facilities; and contracting to hire and train technical staff.  John also began to do inspections, and report writing for the TTMAC, which he continues to do to this day.

In 2011, John joined Euro Tile & Stone to launch their technical department.  He has conducted training sessions for both staff and customers, and introduced various new programs.  John was also an iatrical part of the design and construction of an award winning showroom and warehouse facility.  Subsequently he took on the position of General Manager.

In 2015, John retired and now keeps busy maintaining an active role in the TTMAC Inspection Committee, as well as with many personal interests.
